IMD Says Pre-Monsoon Rain To Continue Over Northeast, Thunderstorms from May 6-10

Guwahati: A yellow watch has been issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) for Assam, Meghalaya, West Bengal, Sikkim, Jharkhand and Odisha on May 6.

Assam and Meghalaya will be on high alert until  May 10 while Sikkim and Odisha will be on high alert on May 17.

The IMD has issued a yellow watch so as to remind people to be updated about the bad weather.

Meanwhile, rainfall averages for some of these states are still well below the pre-monsoon season's average precipitation, despite the wet weather experienced by this region of late.

Rainfall ranging from light to moderate intensity has been predicted for the next five days and it will be scattered across Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura with isolated thunderstorms and lightning on May 6.

Inadequate rainfall has been experienced by the states of Bihar (24 mm), Jharkhand (18 mm), Odisha (28 mm), Tripura (141 mm), and Mizoram (115 mm) Between March 1 and May 5.

The rainfall in Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Tripura and Mizoram is 23 percent, 56 percent, 57 percent, 59 percent, and 58 percent less than their respective averages. 

However, there are chances of improvement during the forthcoming rainy season and the order could be restored if it were happen.

On the other hand, West Bengal (92 mm), Arunachal Pradesh (552 mm), Nagaland (237 mm) and Manipur (217 mm) have witnessed 'normal' rains in this period, recording -18%, 4%, 11% and 5%, respectively.
