A focused awareness campaign was carried out at Chamata Pathar High School in Sonapur by the 1st Battalion of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), Sonapur, in advance of the June 26 International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, which is marked worldwide.
In order to raise awareness among young people and tribal populations about the dangers of drug addiction and the threats posed by illegal narcotics trafficking, 15 SSB personnel, 150 students, 5 teachers, and the local village community came together for the campaign, which was led by Commandant Sunil Kaushik.

The International Day was established in 1987 by the UN General Assembly to encourage global collaboration in the fight against drug misuse and the pursuit of a drug-free future. In addition to stressing the risks associated with drug use, this year's SSB campaign also emphasized the value of rehabilitation, counseling, and treatment facilities, as well as preventive education and institutional capacity building.

The campaign has the following key objectives:

Raising awareness about addiction’s social and health impact

Empowering schools and communities as partners in prevention

Strengthening grassroots resistance against drug trafficking

Promoting access to treatment and reintegration services

Given their critical role in influencing social behavior and forming future generations, SSB authorities emphasized the significance of including tribal groups and educational institutions in the anti-drug campaign. As a community outreach initiative, the campaign reaffirmed the force's dedication to maintaining national integrity both within society and at borders.
