In today's India, merit only key to success: Silchar MP Dr Rajdeep Roy

SILCHAR: "In today's India, merit is the only key to success , be it in the field of politics or in the field of government service, opportunities are being given in terms of qualifications, irrespective of any caste or creed." This was stated by the Member of Parliament, Silchar, Dr Rajdeep Roy. MP Dr Roy was addressing the students as a guest speaker in a meeting titled 'Career in Nation Building'' at the auditorium hall of Gurucharan College here on Saturday.

Elaborating on the role of students towards nation building, MP Dr Roy said, "Future of the country depends upon its students. Name and fame of a country rest on the educated youths. In other words, students are the real treasure of any country. If the energy of the students is directed to constructive purposes, the whole country will taste all round development. A nation can progress if it's youth is sincere and educated. India is fortunate that 60 per cent of its total population consists of young people and most of them are students. These young people can do a lot in the development work of the country."

Recalling the days of education while he was pursuing career in medicine in England, Dr Roy said, "I had the opportunity to stay abroad, I went a long way to study medicine and thought I would keep practicing there and will settled down abroad. Suddenly my father fell sick and I had to return home and over a period of time I was pushed into politics. Of course, when I got the responsibility, I did it with my own, so today I got the opportunity to become a MP. However, I still put myself forward as a doctor and meet patients. Success is sure to come when students do what they love best."

Emphasiing the context of studies, Dr Roy said, "All the bureaucrats of our country have qualified for IAS, IPS, IFS exam with their talents, personalities and their self-determination. These officers have been successful in their career for which they can devote themselves for the development for the country. There is no shortage of talent in our area and with adequate training ,many IAS, IPS officers will come up from our area like Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan or South India," quipped Dr Roy.

He also encouraged the students to prepare themselves for the civil service examination and urged them to think about choosing politics as their career as option. About 500 students gathered in the meeting on the day and 50 such meetings will be organized in the next two years in the areas under Silchar constituency where MP of Silchar, Dr Rajdeep Roy will deliver motivational speech to encourage the students, stated a press release.
