JORHAT: A team of eight officials of the Income Tax Department of the Upper Assam zone conducted a raid in M/s Krishana Hardware for over 10 hours on Wednesday and later locked and sealed four godowns, all located adjacent to the Lichubari area. They even raided the private residence of the owner at Lichubari Colony as he was allegedly running the business of selling and supplying hardware for the last 20 years without maintaining valid income tax return file or GST number.

He was also not issuing valid cash memo to customers as his daily output was over Rs 10 lakh after selling hardware items like cement, rod, CI-sheets and paint along with other hardware items locally as well as to areas like Mokokchung, Mon, Amgoori, Merapani, Bokajan, Surapathar, Dimapur and Bokajan for construction of various schools, hostels and churches that fall under Dimapur Province, said sources from the IT department on Thursday.

Following such huge supply and sale locally to private companies for construction in Assam Agricultural University and for construction of local establishments, M/s Krishana Hardware was allegedly hands-in-glove with certain high-ups. He was least bothered to maintain a healthy IT return file and was cheating the government by not paying income tax and sales tax.

When this correspondent tried to contact the owner of M/s Krishana Hardware, Biju Dey, he refused to speak any word about the IT raid. Several persons, including vehicles owners and drivers associated with carrying hardware items and staff are likely to be summoned to appear before an investigating team of the IT department, said sources.
