Indefinite Curfew imposed in areas of Sonitpur district

TEZPUR: In view of urgency and in the interest of maintenance of public order and peace, the Sonitpur District Magistrate has imposed indefinite curfew at Oriontali village and Arun Tea Estate area of Natun Sirajuli from Sunday.

The curfew order was issued under section 144 of Cr.P.C 1973.

In an official order, the Sonitpur District Magistrate, Manvendra Pratap Singh said, "There exists a grave law and order situation due to the present scenario at village Oriontali under Palashbasti Gram Panchayat and Arun Tea Estate of Natun Sirajuli Gram Panchayat under the Dhekiajuli Police Station area in Sonitpur District. Two groups are trying to indulge in the violence in the name of protest and in view of the present events there is an apprehension of grave risks and danger to human life and properties if persons are allowed to move freely."

The order by magistrate Manvendra Pratap Singh also said that an emergency has arisen which necessitates immediate action and speedy remedy for the maintenance of public order and tranquility.
