Independence Day celebration begins with peace procession by Dibrugarh district administration

Dibrugarh: The Dibrugarh district administration started the three-day celebration for the 73rd Independence Day on Tuesday. Dibrugarh District Sports Department, with the support of Dibrugarh District Sports Association, arranged a peace procession from DC office to Thanacharali on Tuesday morning. Deputy Commissioner Pallav Gopal Jha inaugurated the procession. A drive to clean the statues of the freedom fighters installed in various parks and other places across the town, was also taken up. Simultaneously, saplings were also planted in different places by the district administration.

Drawing and essay-writing competitions, in sync with the Independence Day spirit, were also held among the students. A cultural programme named ‘He Veer, Pranamu Tumak’ was held on Tuesday evening in the District Library.

On Wednesday, a marathon titled ‘Ektar babe daur’ will take place, followed by a quiz competition among the students. On Thursday, prabhat pheri will take place at 6:30 a.m., followed by hoisting of national flag at private residences, garlanding the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at Circuit House by VIP and one at Thana Charali by chairperson of the Dibrugarh Municipal Board, and one of Swahid Kushal Konwar at Chowkidinghee Charali by the president of Dibrugarh Zila Parishad.

At 9 am, guard of honour, ceremonial flag hoisting and speech by the chief guest, general salute, march past and Army Band Display will take place. Among other things, fruits and sweets will be distributed among the inmates of the Central Jail and the patients of Assam Medical College and Hospital. A friendly football match, between DC- XI and DDSA –XI will be held.
