India Meteorological Department issues Fog Warning for Assam, Nagaland & Meghalaya

Guwahati: With the onset of winter, weather forecasters have issued a warning as dense fog is very likely over south Assam, Meghalaya and Nagaland on Thursday. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has made this prediction as severe fog could prove dangerous as it severely reduces visibility. Apart from these areas the IMD has also said that Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura are also likely to be enveloped by fog today, the All India Weather Warning Bulletin stated on December 5, 2019 at 9:15 AM.

Predictions also suggest dense fog over Uttar Pradesh from Friday till Monday.

While the dense fog is likely to clear from most places as the day progresses, some regions could experience the grey and misty conditions during the evening.

It also predicted a thunderstorm accompanied by lightning very likely places over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal. In addition to this, it said Gale wind (wind speed 65-75 kmph gusting to 85 kmph) very likely to prevail over the southwest Arabian Sea and Squally wind (wind speed 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph) very likely to prevail over the east-central Arabian Sea. Strong wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph likely to exist over the sea off Maharashtra-Goa coasts.

Very rough to high sea condition is very likely to prevail over the Southwest Arabian Sea and along & off Somalia coast. Rough to very rough sea conditions are very likely to prevail over the east-central Arabian Sea. Squally weather is likely to prevail over the Comorin area and adjoining the equatorial Indian Ocean. Fishermen are advised not to venture into the southwest Arabian Sea and along & off Somalia coast and over the east-central Arabian Sea.

The weather warning also stated that on Friday and Saturday heavy rainfall very likely at isolated places over Lakshadweep accompanied by thunderstorm and lightning. Dense fog is very likely in isolated pockets over East Uttar Pradesh.
