Guwahati: Reinforcing its commitment to veterans’ welfare, the Indian Army conducted a series of outreach initiatives across Upper Assam in areas such as Lekhapani, Digboi, and Rupai. These engagements are designed as heartfelt tributes to ex-servicemen and Veer Naris, while also providing much-needed support and services.
The programme at Lekhapani welcomed veterans and their families, offering complementary medical and dental camps, a grievance redressal booth, and access to essentials. On-the-spot consultations and medications were available. Additionally, Assam Rifles veterans, many without Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS) cards, received guidance on the benefits and encouraged to enrol.
At Digboi and Rupai, the events saw participation from veterans including Veer Naris. Help desks provided information on welfare schemes, assistance with documentation like Pension Payment Orders (PPO) and SPARSH system, employment opportunities, and timely grievance resolution.
These outreach events fostered direct interaction between serving personnel and veterans, paving the way for meaningful feedback and reinforcing a strong network of support. Veterans were also briefed on the latest healthcare schemes to help them make informed choices about their benefits.
The enthusiasm and camaraderie displayed reaffirm the enduring bond between the Indian Army and its veterans—truly encapsulating the motto: “Once a Soldier, Always a Soldier.”
