Indian Army donates sewing machines to former insurgents in Mangaldai

MANGALDAI: Rehabilitation and empowerment of former female cadres willing to join the mainstream and family members are effective means to bring them back to the mainstream after assisting in their livelihood and social progression.
Taking the concept forward, unit of Indian Army deployed in Darrang district donated sewing machines to Dast-R, an SHG committed to looking after the welfare of former insurgents in Lower Assam. The presentation ceremony held at Mahaliapara on Saturday was a befitting tribute to International Women’s Day.
Speaking on the occasion, chief guests acknowledged the contribution of the Indian Army towards revoking peace and normalcy in the region and exhorted the local population to continue earnest attempts towards nation-building. A number of women social activists were also felicitated in the presence of military officials.
