Indian Army to Train 3000 Cadets of Assam Police

GUWAHATI: Assam Police and Indian Army have come to an agreement for the betterment of the law and order situation of the state and the entire region. As a result of this agreement, the Indian Army will train 3000 people selected for the Assam Police.

This is being hailed as the first and one of the most landmark decisions of the army by several experts in the field. The GoC of the 4 Corps, Lieutenant General DS Rana mentioned that this will be the first of its kind attempt and that the police will be trained to maintain the peace after the forces leave the region following the lifting of the AFSPA. He said that a total of 3000 members of the force will receive this training which is very different from the usual police training.

Talking about the details of this training the GoC mentioned that it will last for 40 weeks. It will include basic military training and physical fitness. Training will also include weapons handling and other necessary skills. For a more specific group, training will be provided about counter-insurgency and special ops training. Instructors from the police will train them in different aspects of the police force.

Speaking about this new training, the Director General of Police in Assam mention that there will be three separate groups of commando training. One of them will be for basic commando training, another will be to handle counter-insurgency operations and the last one will be for special operations.

This training will enable the new trainees to be better suited for handling any possible condition that arises in the state. The forces will train the new cadets across eight training centres and some of the ex-servicemen will be invited to join as instructors in these training programs.
