Inflatable rubber boat donated for rescue operation in flood-affected Maijan area

DIBRUGARH: With an aim to address the various issues faced by the flood-affected people in Maijan area of Dibrugarh town, Deputy Commissioner-cum-chairperson, District Disaster Management Authority, Pallav Gopal Jha on Wednesday handed over one inflatable rubber boat for dedicated use in Maijan area to carry out rescue and relief operations during flood situation and reduce response time.

The inflatable rubber boat which was donated by Oil India Limited, Duliajan under their CSR initiative, was handed over in a ceremonial function held in Maijan TE on Wednesday.

The ATTSA and local people, earlier submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal demanding solution to problems faced by the people of Maijan during rainy season. Acting on Chief Minister Sonowal's direction, DC Jha, after carrying out an assessment, handed over the inflatable rubber boat to people of Maijan to carry on rescue and relief operations in Maijan and adjacent areas during floods. Handing over the boat, Jha said that Maijan being one of the worst affected areas during floods, witnesses severe water logging during the rainy season. He also stressed the importance to reduce the response time in such disasters. He also said that the inflatable boat would help to carry out quick rescue and relief operations in the Maijan area on priority basis.

The boat would be kept in Maijan TE and a committee was also constituted with circle officer, Dibrugarh East Revenue Circle, as chairperson to be the custodian of the inflatable rubber boat.

The ceremonial function was also attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Dipu Kumar Deka, Dibrugarh East Revenue Circle Officer Sujata Gogoi, and others.
