Inquiry ordered into illegal cutting, transportation of logs in Manas National Park

MANAS: Following reports of illegal cutting of trees and transportation of timber logs through river in the Manas National Park and Tiger Reserve, the Environment and Forest Department has authorised Inquiring Officer cum Additional Secretary Deba Kalita to inquire into the matter and to submit report.

Minister for Environment and Forest, Parimal Suklabaidya asked the department to probe into the matter regarding illegal cutting and transportation of timber logs through river in the Bashbari range of Manas National Park and Tiger Reserve.

The order issued here to this effect on Saturday by Secretary to the Environment and Forest Department, M.Baruah Sen, asked Kalita to inquire into the matter and to specify the names of the officials looking after those areas (where the illegal activities took place) and to submit report on Thursday for taking necessary action, stated a press release.
