GUWAHATI: The Assam Chief Minister is mulling at giving a bit of relaxation for the inter-district travelers once a week.

According to reports, a day in a week might be relaxed for inter-district travel.

Further sources revealed that complete relaxation for inter-district movement ahead of August 15 might not be possible.

Inter-district movement in Assam has remained suspended since mid-May this year following the surge in COVID-19 cases in the State during the second wave of pandemics.

However, with improvement in the COVID-19 situation in the State, the Assam Government is mulling to relax the ban on inter-district movement partially.

Earlier the Assam State's Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) declared a complete lockdown in a total of five districts until further notice.

There will be a total ban on the movement of all public and private transport in the total containment zones. However, the movement of goods shall continue.

In other districts with comparatively low cases, all public transport authorities shall enforce COVID-19 appropriate behavior while seating inside the vehicles, carriers, containers, etc. All inter-district passenger transport services and movement of people to and from other districts shall remain suspended, added the order.

Meanwhile, one more person died due to COVID-19 and 59 fresh COVID-19 cases were detected in Sonitpur district on Thursday.

The death toll in the district during the second wave of the pandemic now stands at 221. Altogether 8,317 tests were done across the district on Thursday, out of which 7,946 were RAT and the rest RT-PCR. Official sources said that COVID positive Girish Sarmah (82), resident of Borbhang, Salihamari in Sonitpur died at Tezpur Medical College and Hospital.
