International Labour Day observed across Assam

TINSUKIA: The Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India, in association with the Department of Labour and Welfare, Government of Assam and Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Government of India, observed International Labour Day, 2022 and Ujjwala Day at TDA Cultural Centre, Tinsukia synchronizing with May Day celebration. An ESIC Medical Camp and an E-Shram registration camp was also organized for the workers on the same day.

The Union Minister of State, Labour and Employment, Petroleum and Natural Gas, Rameswar Teli and Minister for Tea Tribe Welfare and Labour Welfare Department, Sanjoy Kishan were present as chief guests. The MLAs of Digboi and Doomdooma, Suren Phukan and Rupesh Gowala respectively, DC of Tinsukia, Narsing Pawar, TMB chairman Jayanta Baruah also attended the programme.

In the programme, one beneficiary was awarded Rs 1 lakh from the Chief Minister's Welfare Fund while some workers were felicitated for their selfless services. The Labour Welfare Department distributed bicycles to each line chowkidar.

BONGAIGAON: International May Day was observed at Bongaigaon by N F Railway Mazdoor Union. In this connection, flag hoisting was done by Ashish Biswas, general secretary of NF Railway Mazdoor Union (NFRMU).

After that, bike rally was taken our from Bongaigaon branch of NFRMU to Paglasthan, Bongaigaon where a mass meeting was conducted in association with all trade unions such as CITU, BSNL Employees' Union, Insurance Employees' Union etc. Hundreds of people gathered in this meeting where Ashish Biswas in his speech appealed to all working class people to be united against the governmen's anti-labour strategy.

GOALPARA: International Labour Day was observed on Sunday in a befitting manner at the Hasila beel bus stand in Goalpara.

In this regard, veteran communist leader Soilen Das hoisted the ceremony flag and addressed a gathering of about hundred people. Other prominent speakers like Nani Das, adviser of the programme, Ranjit Choudhury, academician, Aswini Choudhury, social worker spoke on the occasion highlighting the need of a healthy democracy and upholding of individual liberty and curtailment of price rise.

Manindra Adhikary, DSWO, Jiten Das, senior advocate and Sharifa Yesmin from free legal aid also discussed elaborately the rights of the working class.
