TINSUKIA: The Tinsukia Railway Division of NFR observed International Level Crossing Awareness Day on Thursday through different safety activities related to level crossing like street drama, distribution of safety leaflet and motorcycle rallies in different places of Tinsukia district.
The rally was flagged off by the DRM Bijaya Kumar Mishra. Addressing the gathering prior to the flag-off programme, Mishra said that 90 per cent of the fatalities occur at the level crossing. Most of the accidents take place due to non-adherence to safety protocol, he said, adding that the people crossing the railway track should watch the movement of trains on either side.
In the context of the Tinsukia district, Mishra pointed that both rail track and road run parallelly, leaving the entire stretch highly prone to accidents. He advised people not to use mobile phones and music system while crossing or walking by the side of the railway track. Among those present in the programme were K Sangsung ADRM, Shubham Kumar, senior divisional safety officer, and railway staff.
