DOOMDOOMA: Under the auspices of Rupai Sakha Xahitya Xabha (RSXX) and with active co-operation of Doomdooma College, International Mother Language Day was observed at Kallol auditorium of Doomdooma College on Tuesday. The programme was started by lighting of lamp by president of RSXX Benu Bora while Deepak Ranjan Baruah, Head of Assamese Department, Doomdooma College welcomed the guests.
Dr. Kamaleshwar Kalita, Principal of Doomdooma College and Mohan Moran, president of Tinsukia Zila Xahitya Xabha (TZXX), attended the programme as guest of honour and chief guest respectively. The chief speaker of the occasion Dr Ajit Saikia in his speech said that there were many ways in which one can improve one’s skills in the field of Assamese language. He explained the reasons why the Assamese language was in crisis and appealed to the younger generation to come forward to protect it. He also called upon the Assam Xahitya Xabha to take the lead in preserving the language. He also apprised the gathering about the schemes undertaken by the TZXX.
