SIVASAGAR: Every year, May 12 is observed as the International Nurses' Day around the world to celebrate the birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing. Nursing services are an essential part of modern medical science. Along with the rest of the world, International Nurses' Day was also observed in Sivasagar. To celebrate the occasion, a programme was organized at Aditya Nursing Home in Sivasagar where the nurses were felicitated by the Central Baptist Mandali.
DIBRUGARH: International Nurses' Day was celebrated by the nursing fraternity of Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH), Dibrugarh, under the leadership of Dr Momi Neog, Nursing Superintendent. A one-act play was enacted displaying the life story of Florence Nightingale, befitting the occasion. Bhugeswari Chetia, retired PNO (Principal Nursing Officer), was the chief guest at the event. The pending farewell of 12 nurses was also conducted on Thursday, which could not be done for the last two years because of the pandemic. Dr Neog urged the government to invest in nursing to secure global health, as this year's theme is 'Nurses: A Voice to Lead - Invest in Nursing and Respect Rights to Secure Global Health'.
DEMOW: The International Nurses' Day was observed in Demow Model Hospital-cum-CHC on Thursday. The ceremonial lamp in front of the photo of Florence Nightingale was lit by Dr Rupam Borkotoky, Deputy Superintendent of Demow Model Hospital. A meeting was held in the hospital, presided over by Dr Rupam Borkotoky. Dr Rupam Borkotoky, Deputy Superintendent of Demow Model Hospital, Dr Surajit Giri, an anesthesia specialist, and Dr SJ Taye, gynecologist, spoke about Florence Nightingale. A get-together of retired nurses who worked in Demow Model Hospital at one time was also organized.
NAGAON: On occasion of the 201st birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale, Sadou Asom Gramya Puthibharal Sangstha observed the International Nurses' Day at its central headquarter here at Nagaon on Thursday. Besides, the organization also observed the first death anniversary of noted Assamese litterateur and journalist, Homen Borgohain. The members of the organization garlanded the portraits of the two great souls and paid homage to both of them. A programme was also organized to commemorate the life and activities of Florence Nightingale as well as Borgohain in which Bhaben Bora, Punyada Bora and a host of dignitaries took part. The programme was initiated with lighting of earthen lamp.
