PALASBARI: Assam Health Minister Ashok Singhal on Saturday attended the Mid-Term Complication Meet 2025 held at a hotel in Borjhar, marking the inaugural academic CME of the North East Chapter of the Indian Society of Vascular and Interventional Radiology (ISVIR). Speaking at the event, the Minister highlighted the transformative potential of Interventional Radiology (IR) in modern medicine. “Interventional Radiology has the potential to bring revolutionary changes in the field of modern healthcare,” he said. “With the support of advanced technologies, several complex procedures have now become possible and significantly more accessible.”
Minister Singhal also expressed optimism about the future of healthcare in Assam, emphasizing that the greater adoption and integration of Interventional Radiology services in the state’s healthcare system would offer substantial benefits to the people of Assam. Dr. Pradeep Hatimota, Organizing chairperson and president of the NE Chapter of ISVIR, remarked, “This is a significant step forward for Assam and the Northeast. With enhanced access to advanced procedures like stroke intervention, trauma management, and cancer-directed therapies, we are committed to transforming patient care in the region through Interventional Radiology.”
Dr. Dibya Mohan Hazarika, organizing secretary and secretary of NE ISVIR, added, “Through this meet, we aim to raise awareness about non-surgical, organ-preserving treatments such as uterine fibroid as well as effective image-guided solutions for arterial disease and varicose veins. These therapies are increasingly available in Assam and have the potential to reduce the need for major surgery.”
Interventional Radiology (IR) is a cutting-edge medical specialty that uses imaging guidance to perform targeted, minimally invasive procedures for a wide range of conditions. These include treatments for cancer, vascular diseases, and medical emergencies. Compared to conventional surgery, IR offers quicker recovery, less pain, and fewer complications for patients.
Dr. Shyamkumar Keshava, president of ISVIR, said, “The launch of the Northeast Chapter exemplifies ISVIR’s mission to promote the growth of Interventional Radiology across all regions of India.”
Dr. Nitin Shetty, secretary of ISVIR, added, “This meet reflects the growing momentum of IR as an essential part of modern medicine. We are proud to support its expansion through collaboration, training, and regional engagement.”
With a successful inauguration and enthusiastic participation, the Mid-Term ISVIR Meet 2025 has laid the foundation for a new era in Interventional Radiology across the Northeast and beyond.
