SILCHAR: The south east chapter of Viswa Hindu Parishad on Monday sought the intervention of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma alleging that Cachar police had brutally tortured five cadres of Bajrang Dal who were in police custody. Referring it as a clear case of custodial torture as well as human rights violation, VHP in a memorendum to the Chief Minister said, five cadres of Bajrang Dal were picked up for their alleged involvement in an incident of beating a Muslim family in Silchar. The youths were brutally tortured inside Silchar Sadar thana by a few policemen. A group of advocates of Silchar had already appealed to the Chief Judicial Magistrate who had instructed the Health Joint Director to get the youths examined by a medical board. The Joint Director had already submitted the medical report to the CJM R Rajak.
Meanwhile, VHP leaders on Sunday met the BJP leaders in the party office and expressed their resentment for their silence in the incident of police highhandedness on Hindu outfit's cadres. The VHP leaders in categorical tone told the BJP leaders like Minister Parimal Suklabaidya, MP Dr Rajdeep Roy, three MLAs Dipayan Chakraborty, Kaushik Rai and Mihir Kanti Som that whichever party be in the power, the Sangha outfit would not sit idle if Hindus were subjected to torture or harassment. They even said that BJP law makers of Barak Valley were elected on Hindu votes, and hence it was their responsibility to safeguard the interest of the Hindus.
