JAGIROAD: A public meeting was organized jointly by the Jagiroad College IQAC, students union, and Jagiroad College Alumni Association in the college on June 18, on the occasion of the Autonomous Status conferred to the college by the University Grants Commission recently.
Attending the meeting, Local MLA-cum-Cabinet Minister of Assam Pijush Hazarika congratulated Jagiroad College Principal Dr Bhaben Chandra Neog and staff for achieving the Autonomous Status conferred upon by the UGC. He informed that Jagiroad College was one of the best colleges of Assam with panoramic eye-catching infrastructure and having a well-maintained campus. He said that it has been maintaining good results and an overall good academic reputation for a long period. Minister Hazarika expressed satisfaction for the conferment of Autonomous Status which is equivalent to ‘Deemed to be a University.’
The Chief Executive Member (CEM) of Tiwa Autonomous Council, Jiban Chandra Konwar, also congratulated the Principal of the college and other members for Autonomous Status. Principal Dr Neog explained his vision to upgrade the college into a university. He gave his roadmap for the next ten years with visionary milestones to achieve his desired dream to upgrade the college into a full-fledged university.
The meeting was attended by the founder family members of the college, along with the Morigaon District Xahitya Xabha, Jagiroad Shotodol Xahitya Xabha, Jagiroad Lekhika Samaroh Samity, and other NGOs, many local public and alumni members, faculty members, students, and staff of the college.
Principal Dr Neog offered his sincere thanks and gratitude to the governing body, his faculty colleagues, students, and staff for achieving A+ Grade in the 3rd cycle of NAAC assessment in 2023 and Autonomous Status in 2025. He also expressed his indebtedness to one and all for the Autonomous Status.
The meeting was presided over by the governing body Chairman, Dr Puniram Patar. In his speech, Dr Patar mentioned that the Principal had contributed a lot for the overall development of the college with his extraordinary efforts. He said that Dr Neog’s proactive leadership was the game changer with the support from the teaching and non-teaching staff.
The Alumni Association felicitated the Principal with a letter of appreciation, Japi, Seleng, Gamoxha, and Shorai.
Jagiroad Co-District Commissioner Hriday Kumar Das also attended the meeting and delivered his speech. The vote of thanks was offered by the President of the Alumni Association Prabir Bhowmik and the meeting ended with the Asom Sangeet.
