GUWAHATI: Assam Assembly Speaker Biswajit Daimary said that the 'Jai Shri Ram' is not a religious slogan.

On Friday, some ruling party representatives gave 'Jai Shri Ram' and ' Bharat Mata Ki Jai' slogans during the Assembly session after passing the much-discussed new Assam Cattle Preservation Bill, 2021 that has drawn mixed responses.

Some social media users commented that the slogan is a religious one and put a question that is not the Constitution of India is a secular one? Speaker Daimary addressed a press meet today and said that the slogan is not a religious one and could be given the slogan on the floor of the assembly.

"The Jai Shri Ram slogan is not a religious one,'' he added. It could be noted that usually, some Hindutva organizations shout the Jai Sree Ram slogan on various occasions.

Earlier, a team of Bathou Traditional and Cultural Centre, Kokrajhar, led by its chairman Sarada Prasad Mashahary and convener Mohim Chandra Basumatary, on Friday called on the Speaker of Assam Legislative Assembly, Biswajit Daimary, and urged him to take special initiative for the completion of infrastructures being built at Baganshali in Kokrajhar.

The team members held a discussion with the Speaker regarding the completion of Bathou Traditional Cultural Centre, Baganshali in Kokrajhar. They also submitted a memorandum to the Speaker, the copy of which was also sent to the Prime Minister of India, Union Home Minister and Chief Minister, for the inclusion of Bathouism in the general census commission of India. They also discussed various issues regarding the completion of Siknajhar Bathou Thanshali at Bishmuri in Kokrajhar district amounting to Rs. 4 crores and proposed setting up of statue of Mwnsinsing Bwrai on the hilltop of Dangdufur near Dheer Bilw, like Bathou Thanshali constructed at Bogamati, Goreswar in Baksa district. They also discussed the silver jubilee celebration of Bathou Traditional Cultural Centre in Kokrajhar in 2022.
