JAMUGURIHAT: Jamugurihat under Sonitpur district is all set to celebrate the 226th Barechahar Bhaona with a four-day programme on March 6, 7, 8 and 9 next year. Barechahar Bhaona has been celebrated after every five years. In this connection, a bhaona celebration committee was constituted recently. A general meeting of Barechahar Bhaona committee was held in the Dekasundar namghar premises with MLA Padma Hazarika, president of Bhaona celebration committee in the chair on Thursday.

The general body decided to exhibit bhaona festival in 21 kholas by various devotees from various caste, creed and religion. As a part of the historic bhaona festival, a total of one hundred selected youths from various villages of the greater Jamugurihat area will be imparted training on Khol badan by the experts form January 16 onwards. The 25 sub-committees of the ancient bhaona committee have already shouldered the responsibility bestowed upon them. The general body of the bhaona committee decided to invite the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi, the Union Home Minister Amit Shah along with other dignitaries. The Barechahar Bhaona project cite which has been constructed with worth of 28 crores will also be inaugurated during the bhaona festival. A research based magazine will also be unveiled during the festival, said Nitu Mani Bora, spokesperson of the celebration committee.
