BOKAKHAT: Today, a press meet was held at Bokakhat Natya Mandir under the supervision of Prahlad Mili, general secretary of the Janagosthiya Sanskritik Oikyamanch, Assam (Ethnic Cultural Unity Platform, Assam), with local journalists in attendance. During the meet, Prahlad Mili informed that in order to unite all the ethnic communities of Assam and revive the work culture of the Assamese people, the Janagosthiya Sanskritik Oikyamanch, with support from the people of Assam, will launch the ‘Cultural Unity March 2025’ from a Sattra in Majuli district on May 18, continuing until June 20. The march will travel through the districts of Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Biswanath, Sonitpur, Udalguri, Darrang, Baksa-Tamulpur, Nalbari, Bajali, Barpeta, Chirang, Bongaigaon, Kokrajhar, Dhubri, Goalpara, Rural Kamrup, Kamrup Metro, Morigaon, Nagaon, Hojai, West Karbi Anglong, Dima Hasao, East Karbi Anglong, Golaghat, Jorhat, Sivasagar, Charaideo, Dibrugarh, and culminate at Sadiya in Tinsukia district with a tribute at the memorial of folk artist Rajiv Sadiya.
The goal of the initiative is to ensure that ethnic conflicts do not arise in Assam, that no community feels alienated from the Assamese identity, and that Assam continues to thrive through its work culture in both markets and fields. The Oikyamanch envisions the establishment of a ‘Borghar’ (great house) at the heart of Assam to symbolize a strong and united Assamese identity on the world stage.
The 32-day cultural unity march has sought cooperation from all communities in Assam who proudly identify as Assamese. The Oikyamanch urged every Assamese to contribute and support this initiative.
All journalists were honoured with a sapling of a Bokul (Mimusops elengi) tree. The press meet was hosted and led by General Secretary Prahlad Mili.
