Jorhat DC urges students to become Journalists and work for Society

JORHAT: Along with the rest of the country, in Jorhat district to National Press Day was observed jointly by the Department of Mass Communication, JB College and Jorhat Press Club in the JB College seminar hall. The programme was inaugurated by Dr. Kabita Rajguru, wife of veteran journalist Prafulla Rajguru on Saturday.

Dr. Saumar Jyoti Mahanta, Principal of Sivasagar College, was the chief guest while Jorhat Deputy Commissioner Roshni Aparanji Korati and other speakers spoke on the occasion. The Deputy Commissioner released the reporters’ directory and called upon the student fraternity of JB College to become journalists and work for the welfare and uplift of the society. She said that before clearing her UPSC exam, she too was a journalist.

Saumar Jyoti Mahanta spoke about the change in the forms of media and how reliable as well as dangerous social media was turning into. Rintu Goswami, the legal expert, stressed passing a law for safeguarding the journalist fraternity and spoke about the viral circulation of unauthentic news through news portals.
