MANGALDAI: In a rare instance of expressing solidarity towards the struggling journalists particularly of the rural areas of the State and to contribute to the CM's Relief Fund, senior journalist Akhil Kalita of 'Assam Talks' based in Udalguri district has donated the entire amount of Rs 40,000.00 he had received for his treatment from the State government to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund. On Thursday he met Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma in Guwahati and offered him a cheque amounting to Rs 40,000. Udalguri legislator Gobinda Basumatary and social activist Khagen Choudhury also accompanied Akhil Kalita.

Few months back, Akhil Kalita underwent a surgical operation for renal cyst at KIM'S Hospital Hyderabad under eminent renal surgeon Dr Sarbeswar Saharia. As per his application, the Assam government had sanctioned an amount of Rs. 40,000.00 for his treatment through the Directorate of Information & Public Relations, Assam.

Highly thankful to the State government, Akhil Kalita however decided to donate the amount of Rs. 40,000.00 to the CM's Relief Fund so that this amount may be of great help to some other journalist in urgent need. This unique initiative and the benevolence of journalist Akhil Kalita has widely been appreciated.
