The woman is alleged to have eaten poison on the temple grounds after a brief period of prayer. The woman was taken unconscious by the police and taken to the Gauhati Medical College Hospital right away (GMCH). Unfortunately, the medical professionals pronounced her dead.

The woman has been named as Chandana Roy, a 40-year-old local of Guwahati's Lal Ganesh neighbourhood. According to accounts in the media, the spouse of the deceased woman has been charged with cruelly abusing her. The incident happened around 4:30 PM on Friday, according to the Officer-In-Charge (OC) of the Fatasil Ambari Police Station.
