GUWAHATI: JSW Group chairman Sajjan Jindal announced on Tuesday that the company plans to invest in Assam’s cement manufacturing, renewable energy and thermal power sectors. Speaking at the Advantage Assam 2.0 Investment and Infrastructure Summit, he praised the state’s rapid development and reaffirmed JSW Group’s commitment to contributing to its growth.

Recalling his childhood visits to Tinsukia, where his maternal grandparents lived, Jindal shared his personal connection with Assam. "As a child, my grandfather would tell me stories of local legends and bravery. Now, returning here, I am pleased to witness the progress taking place," he said.

Highlighting the strategic significance of the Northeast in India's economic growth, Jindal noted, "As India moves toward becoming the world's third-largest economy, the Northeast will play a crucial role. The Prime Minister has a special connection with this region and believes that the country's growth is linked to the Northeast's progress."

He further stated that with the support of a "double-engine government," the region is now advancing at the same pace as the rest of the country.

Jindal cited infrastructure improvements such as expanding national highways, airports, and logistics parks as signs of the region’s transformation.

Expressing JSW Group's interest in investing, he said, "We are exploring cement manufacturing opportunities in Assam." He also stressed the need for power in development, adding, "We plan to invest in renewable and thermal power, including the state's largest thermal power plant, to support its growing energy needs."

Jindal appreciated the Assam government’s initiatives to attract industries and expressed optimism about the summit’s role in positioning the state as a global investment destination.
