KAAC meets Union Minister Jowal Oram in New Delhi, submits Memorandum

Diphu: Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) led by CEM KAAC Tuliram Ronghang with his KAAC Colleagues met Union Minister Jowal Oram at Motilal Nehru Marg in New Delhi and submitted a memorandum Demanding for immediate withdrawal of the terms of clause 8 of the Memorandum of Settlement signed between the Union Government, Assam Government and the Bodo Liberation Tigers on 10, 2003.

It was elaborated in the threadbare discussions that providing ST(Hills) status to the Bodo Community is unacceptable and it was also revealed by CEM that it was unanimously rejected in the EC resolutions, besides reiterated that the Bodo Community are already under the ST(P) Category within Karbi Anglong, Dima-Hasao and in Assam as a whole.

It was also discussed that regarding the matter in order to bring permanent solution by withdrawing the said provisions of the clause and to remove any misunderstandings issues among the various Tribal Communities living in Assam, asked for promoting peaceful co-existence and understanding among all the Tribal People.

The team also met Kiren Rijiju (Union Minister of State ,Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India) at his Official Residence Krishna Menon Marg, New Delhi and had a prolonged discussions demanding for withdrawal of the terms of Clause 8 of the memorandum of the Memorandum of Settlement signed between the Union Government, Assam Government and the Bodo Liberation Tigers on 10th February 2003.

The Union Minister after patiently listening to the delegation grievances assured to extend co-operation in all possible matters and assured to hold talks with Assam Government regarding the matter at the earliest.

The group also met around table talks again with Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal at New Delhi and had a verbal discussion on the same matter.

CEM also asked Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal for early arrangements to hold a meeting soon in order to bring permanent solutions for the greater interest of the people of Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao Districts.
