KOKRAJHAR: Noted writer, academician and founder principal of Janata College, Serfanguri- Kamleswar Brahma breathed his last at his Puthimari residence in Kokrajhar in the wee hours of Saturday. He leaves behind his wife, four sons and two daughters. He was 85. Brahma founded the Janata College at Serfanguri in 1977. The greater Serfanguri area was lagging behind in all spheres and there was no higher education centre for a large population living in Serfanguri, Dotma, Kachugaon, Ramfalbil and Patgaon. Even now there is only one venture college at Dotma and the other places have no higher education facilities. To cater to the need of higher education in the locality, Brahma founded the Janata College with some local people and he dedicated his entire life to the college. Now, Janata College has become a centre of excellence.

The president of Ramfalbil Anchalik Committee, ABSU, Mwkthang Basumatary, principal of Janata College, Dr. Subung Basumatary, professors, lecturers and leaders of various organizations paid rich floral tribute to the departed soul. His body was taken to Janata College through a silent rally and cremated at his birthplace, Puthimari in presence of leaders of different organizations, local intellectuals, well-wishers and villagers.
