Kamrup (M) Admin Urges Schools to Avoid Exams During Ambubachi

Kamrup (M) district administration requests Guwahati schools to avoid exams during Ambubachi Mela, starting June 22 onwards.

GUWAHATI: The Kamrup (M) district administration in Guwahati has urged schools not to schedule any exams during the upcoming Ambubachi Mela, which will take place from June 22 to June 26, 2023. In a meeting held in April at the Kamrup Metro Deputy Commissioner's conference hall, chaired by Additional Deputy Commissioner Dhrubajyoti Hazarika, preparations for the Ambubachi Mela were discussed to ensure a smooth and hassle-free event.

Deputy Commissioner Pallav Gopal Jha issued a notification emphasizing the importance of avoiding exams during the Ambubachi Mela. This decision aims to prevent any inconvenience for students in reaching their examination centers during the religious festival. The meeting was attended by high-ranking officials from the District Administration, Assam Police, senior priests known as 'Dolois,' and representatives of the Kamakhya Devalaya.

The ADC informed the attendees that the Kamrup (Metro) district administration would facilitate coordination among all departments and the Kamakhya Devalaya to ensure a seamless Ambubachi Mela experience for devotees. Efforts were made to increase the number of camps for accommodation and food from three to five, with further expansions planned for this year.

Various responsibilities were assigned during the meeting. The Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) was entrusted with the task of maintaining cleanliness and hygiene throughout the city, including the temple premises, throughout the five-day event. The Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) was responsible for illuminating key areas, such as the Jalukbari flyover, Bhupen Hazarika Samadhi Kshetra (Cemetery), Balaji Temple, Umananda Temple, and several city parks.

To ensure the well-being of attendees, the health department would set up health camps within the Kamakhya temple premises and at the entrance gate below the Nilachal Hills. The Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) was directed to ensure uninterrupted power supply during the Ambubachi Mela. Additionally, the forest department was assigned the task of trimming leaning trees near the Kamakhya temple and instructed to stock up on anti-snake venom and engage snake rescuers.

The Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC) would organize public transportation from various areas of Guwahati to the entrance gate below the Nilachal Hills, facilitating the travel of worshipers. The Public Health Engineering Department received instructions to ensure an adequate water supply within the temple premises and the camps set up for devotees during the five-day festival.

Lastly, the Guwahati Police Commissioner's office developed a comprehensive plan to manage traffic congestion, crowd control, and ensure the safety of devotees throughout the fair.

These collective efforts and assigned responsibilities reflect the dedication of the Kamrup (M) district administration to ensure a well-organized and memorable Ambubachi Mela, promoting a harmonious and enjoyable experience for all participants.
