BOKAJAN: Inflicting a severe blow on terrorism and extortion, the Karbi Anglong police arrested four cadres of People's Democratic Council of Karbi Longri (PDCK), a fledgling militant group formed by former NDFB commander IK Songbijit, in East Karbi Anglong on Sunday.

As per reports, the police launched an operation in Therebasa village under Dokmoka police station and arrested former self-styled army chief and present home secretary of PDCK, Francis Terang alias David Mukrang and self-styled sergeant Naman Rishi Rengma alias Akhevi Rengma from a hideout. Police also arrested two new recruits of the outfit -Roosevelt Engti (18) and Angtong Rongpi (19) -during the operation.

A huge cache of arms and ammunitions, including two 7.65 pistols along with two magazines and 10 round of live ammunition, PDCK letter pad and demand pad, four mobile handsets, combat uniforms, one laptop and various other incriminating documents, were recovered from their possession. Police also recovered cash amounting to Rs 3,01,050 from their possession.

The arrest of Francis Terang alias David Mukrang comes as a major setback to PDCK. Earlier, Karbi Anglong police had arrested the former army chief of the outfit, Welson Terang alias Mongwe Terang back in February, 2019. Both Welson and David were actively engaged in extortion and recruiting new cadres in order to expand the militant outfit which was formed in a undisclosed location on October 27, 2016.
