SILCHAR: As the initial shock starts to ebb down, Barak Valley is gearing up to raise voice against the State Government's decision to remodel the administrative structure of the three districts of south Assam.
Though opposition parties like AIUDF and Trinamool Congress so far restricted their protest within the boundary of criticizing the 'autocratic' decision of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, the Karimganj Bar Library had decided to challenge the government's move in the court. The Congress, on the other hand, has decided to first express their resentment before the Election Commission and if it fails to yield any positive response, then they too will seek legal resort.
TMC MP Susmita Dev pointed fingers at Himanta Biswa Sarma as she said that the Chief Minister was now running the State as per his whims. She said that people of Katigorah never wished to move to Karimganj nor did the people of Badarpur ever want to be a part of Cachar.
Karimuddin Barbhuiyan, the AIUDF MLA from Sonai, alleged that the Chief Minister had taken such a major decision at the instruction of the RSS. The sole agenda of the saffron brigade was to reduce the number of Muslims in the legislature and Sarma was acting on it, Barbhuiyan pointed out.
Meanwhile, Karimganj Bar Library on Tuesday decided to move the court to challenge the decision of the government. In an emergent meeting, the advocates of the district said, Karimganj was a part of Sylhet in pre-independence period and hence the land law of the district had certain unique features which differ from the other parts of the State, including the two adjacent districts of Barak Valley itself. The decision to slice out Badarpur municipality area would be a disaster for the local people as they would be compelled to travel much farther for any official work.
