Silchar: "Be grateful to the man you help, think of him as God. Is it not a great privilege to be allowed to worship God by helping our fellow men" said Swami Vivekananda. In other words, 'service to man is service to God'. It is this charitable spirit which has prompted the Karimganj Zila Parishad to think and help the poor and helpless people living beyond the barbed wire fencing during the festive season of Durga Puja. 150 residents of Lafasail, Chandsrikona and Jagannath confined on their home land but beyond the fencing have not been fortunate to enjoy the festivity of Durga Puja.

Ashis Nath, President, Karimganj Zila Parishad, with his dedicated team of workers did not forget these unfortunate people and came forward to provide them necessary garments and clothes to men, women and children to make them feel they are not isolated and uncared for. Though the help extended was on official level, Ashis Nath took the initiative to bring smile on their faces. As Zila Parishad president said it his privilege to be of service and help to the poor and needy. During the long lockdown and continuing unlock down period, these people living on edge have been faced with extreme hardship. Some NGOs including Vivekananda Kanya Kumari Kendra Karimganj centre have extended relief material from time to time to both Hindu and Muslim families. They have to live under stricter restrictions under the close watch and surveillance of BSF. BSF has always been helpful to these people. During the distribution of clothes and garments, BSF has been standing like sentinels as a part of their onerous responsibility of guarding Indo-Bangladesh border.
