JAMUGURIHAT: The 91st birth anniversary of eminent poet Hari Bhakta Katowal convened by Bharatiya Sahitya Pratisthan, Tezpur was held at the Gorkha bhawan in Khanamukh with a daylong programme on Wednesday. The programme began with illumination of an earthen lamp in front of the portrait of poet Hari Bhakta Katowal by Bishnu Shastry, Chairman of Bharatiya Sahitya Pratisthan followed by offering of floral tribute by Sunil Chhetry, President of All Assam Gorkha Students’ Union (AAGSU).
The open session was held with Dr Dhundiraj Upadhyaya, Assistant Professor of Darrang College in the chair. Chhatraman Subba, recipient of the translation prize of Sahitya Akademi, graced the occasion as an appointed speaker who in his address traced the contributions of the revolutionary Nepali poet in bringing new trends in Nepali literature of Assam and in India as well.
He read out some of his poems and appealed to all concerned to study his literature. The meeting was also addressed by Sunil Chhetry who also spoke on the occasion as chief guest. The meeting was attended by Sujit Thapa, Sagar Sapkota, Joy Newar, Prakash Katowal, Rajen Katowal, Arpita Chetry among others.
The proceedings were conducted by Bishnu Shastry, Chairman of Bharatiya Sahitya Pratisthan.
