Kaziranga: Forest Guard goes Missing, Forest Ranger Launches Search Operation for his Rescue

KAZIRANGA: A forest guard from Bagri range of Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve went missing since last Tuesday (June 29). He is recognized as Wahidur Rahman, who is a resident of Chhaygaon in Boko district, who is going through a massive search operation.

Bibit Dihingia, Bagri Forest Ranger, said that Rahman has been missing since last Tuesday. They have launched an intensive search operation for his rescue. He said that elephants and drones have been utilized in their search operation but no clues or hints of his whereabouts yet.

According to Dihingia, the forest security guard was accounted for to be under the influence of alcohol during his duty hours. Sources said that Rahman was posted at the Amakathani forest camp under Bagri Forest range. One of the largest Assam parks, the forest camp is situated close to the Brahmaputra River.

On Sunday, two forest personnel of Kaziranga National Park have been arrested after a broken piece of rhino horn was allegedly recovered from their ownership. An authority said that it has not been confirmed if the two have any if with poachers. The two personnel were identified as Sonia Orang (Forest Guard) and Dipen Kumar Nath (Home Guard), who were considered responsible for the act and taken into custody. The forest minister's PRO said in an explanation that the authorities of the national park informed that a forest guard and a home guard were caught by the Bagori range official. He further said that the two personnel were captured regarding illegal possession of a wildlife trophy, that is, the broken piece of rhino horn.

Meanwhile, resident of Chhaygaon, Boko district, forest guard Wahidur Rahman is under police investigations.
