Key challenges in handling monkey menace discussed at Goalpara

GOALPARA: A State-level workshop-cum-awareness programme on wildlife, especially on monkey menace, was organized on Thursday at Agia College by the office of the Social Forestry Division (SFD), Goalpara.

Besides the enthusiastic students of the college, several eminent wildlife experts and zoologists participated in the programme chaired by Amiya Kumar Patgiri, DFO. Suleman Uddin Choudhury, conservator of Forest ,Lower Assam Social Forestry Circle , Bongaigaon, who has a huge experience of working with the wildlife of Goalpara forest division, threw light on the different aspects of man-animal conflict.

While Tejas Maryswamy, DFO of Assam State Zoo, Guwahati focused on the key challenges in handling of monkey menace, Prof. Narayan Sarma of Cotton University and Dr. Hilloljyoti Singha of Bodoland University elaborately discussed about the ways and means of solving this rising confrontation between human and animals.

Dr. Ashraful Amin, ADC, Goalpara, in his speech informed the house that solving the problem of monkey menace was one among the priority issues of the Goalpara district administration. He also narrated his horrific personal experience with the monkeys in his office quarter.

Earlier, Arnab Bose of Nature's Foster delivered the welcome speech. On the other hand, Sariful Hussain Rana, ranger, gave the vote of thanks and praised the key role played by Dr. Utpal Das, Principal of Agia College, in making the programme a success.
