Khairabari in Udalguri to host 59th session of Bodo Sahitya Sabha

MANGALDAI: Tremendous enthusiasm and a feeling of festivity have gripped the Khairabari area in Udalguri district following the decision of Bodo Sahitya Sabha (BSS) –one of the largest literary forums in Assam - to hold its 59th annual conference with a three-day-long colourful programme on January 21, January 22 and January 23, 2020.

Taking part in the very first meeting of the reception committee at Khairabari on Sunday, the local people assured to donate an amount of Rs. 8.50 lakh for the smooth management of the annual session. The people of Khairabari are going to host the annual session of Bodo Sahitya Sabha for the first time. The Bodo Sahitya Sabha, with a view to promote the Bodo language and Bodo literature and culture, was founded on November 16, 1952 in presence of the representatives from Assam, Meghalaya, West Bengal, Nagaland, Tripura and Nepal with former minister Joy Bhadra Hagjer as the founder president.

For the smooth celebration and management of the annual session, president of Bodo Sahitya Sabha, Taren Boro on Sunday ceremonially inaugurated the office of the reception committee at the office premises of Khairabari primary committee of BSS. In his inaugural speech, he spoke about the steps taken to ensure the smooth management of the session and appealed to all sections of the society to extend all cooperation and support.

In the meeting presided over by Executive Member of BTC, Lwmshrw Daimary, Kalaigaon legislator Maheswar Boro introduced all the office bearers of the reception committee along with the president and secretaries and members of the sub-committees. Few days back, in a well-attended public meeting, the reception committee for the annual session of BSS was formed with Executive Member of BTC, Lwmshrw Daimary as president, Kalaigaon legislator Maheswar Boro as working president, Bhisma Boro as the general secretary and Chitta Ranjan Biswas as the Treasurer.

Executive Member of BTC, Jagadish Sarkar, while addressing the meeting, said that organizing the annual session of BSS in a rural place like Khairabari seemed to be a herculean task. But the people of Khairabari area had proved it as wrong as on the very first day, the kind-hearted people assured to donate an amount of Rs. 8.50 lakh. The reception committee, meanwhile, has prepared a budget of Rs. 1.10 crore for the successful management of the annual session.
