Khelo India Youth Games: Assams Pooja Basumatary bags first gold for the state in judo

GUWAHATI: Pooja Basumatary from Assam won gold in Girl’s Under-17, 57kg category in judo in the ongoing third Khelo India Youth Games in Guwahati. With this, she bagged the first gold medal for the state.

She won gold after defeating Sneha Chauhan from Uttarakhand by 1-0.

Upasha Talukdar won two more medals including one silver for Assam.

She had won bronze on Friday.

Upasha stood second in the U-17 Rhythmic Gymnastics (ball) event while won a bronze medal in the Rhythmic Gymnastics (Rope) category.

Around 6,800 athletes are expected to participate in the third edition of the Khelo India Youth Games. The athletes will take part in a total of 20 sports with lawn ball and cycling being new additions to the Games. The opening ceremony took place at the Indira Gandhi Stadium in Guwahati.
