SILCHAR: Mystery shrouded over the recovery of a Badarpur-based businessman who was allegedly kidnapped at dagger point in Silchar on Saturday. Salimuddin Barbhuiyan, the trader was recovered by the police from the residence of a Mizo widow at Vairengte in Mizoram near Hailakandi inter-state border on Sunday. Cachar SP Numal Mahato said that police would probe the incident. Evidence of previous monetary transaction between Salimuddin and the alleged kidnapper was found.

On Saturday night, Salimuddin's elder brother Nizamuddin Barbhuiyan lodged an FIR with Silchar Rangirkhari police station that said that the former was kidnapped at dagger point from Sonai Road area in the town. The kidnapper had demanded Rs 10 lakh as ransom, the FIR further added.

However, within 24 hours Salimuddin was recovered from the residence of a Mizo widow in Vairengte and he was in a normal condition. His medical examination was reported to be fine. Police sources suspected the alleged kidnapping had a link with illegal betel nut smuggling. "Investigation is on and we will definitely find out the truth," Mahato said.
