Kinangaon Youth Club organized career counselling programme in Boko

BOKO: Kinangaon Youth Club organized a career counselling and prayer programme for the students of Kinangaon village who passed the HSLC exam 2020, on Kinangaon L P School premises at Kinangaon in Chaygaon LAC in Kamrup district on Saturday evening. Total eight students of the village from various schools had appeared for the HSLC exam this year and all passed.

Kinangaon Youth Club (KYC), which was established in the year 1985, organized the career counselling programme to motivate the students. Phantom O. Sangma, vice-president of KYC, said that many Garo boys and girls in Kinangaon village as well as in nearby Garo villages had dropped out of school before completing their education. Hence this career counselling programme was organized to give proper guidance to the students.

Chonme D. Sangma, teacher of Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Boko, took part as chief guest in the programme. She interacted with the students and gave them ideas to choose the career of their choice.

Phantom O. Sangma said that the club would provide free coaching class/tuition in the near future to those who cannot afford tuition fees. They intended to help the students of nearby Garo villages as well, he added. When asked about the reasons for children dropping out of school, Sangma said that there were many reasons for this. Most of the villagers are farmers and uneducated. They remain busy in cultivation and fail to give proper guidance to their children. Also, children from economically weak families go to Kinangaon ME School and then to Gohalkona High School. But Gohalkona High School is around 10 km away from the village. Since the school is far away from the village, the children discontinue their education after ME school, i.e, Class VIII.
