Kokrajhar Army Observes Gudur Day with community feast in Patharghat

Kokrajhar: Kokrajhar unit of the Red Horns Division of the army organized a community feast on the occasion of Gudur Day in Patharghat on Monday. The feast was attended by people from all walks of life, including children, who enjoyed the preparation in line with the ongoing Durga Puja celebrations. Army sources said that Gudur Day was observed by the unit to commemorate the anniversary of Col Govardhan Gopal Gudur’s martyrdom. As per military traditions, a special Sainik Sammelan was organized wherein the officers, JCOs and jawans regaled their experiences of serving with Col Govardhan Gopal Gudur. Exemplary in his devotion to duty, his impeccable and immaculate way of always putting the best foot forward, always leading by personal example, his unwavering honesty and composure in the face of adversity were all fondly remembered by the troops during the Sainik Sammelan.

Col Govardhan Gopal Gudur was an officer par excellence who had made the nation and the army proud, not only within the country but overseas as well. Following the events of Sainik Sammelan, a sombre wreath-laying ceremony was carried out at the unit War Memorial.

The programme also included Akhand Path at the Unit Gurudwara Sahib following which a community feast was organized. It was on October 7 last year that Col Govardhan Gopal Gudur attained martyrdom during a military operation.
