KOKRAJHAR: In an innovative step, Kokrajhar Deputy Commissioner Varnali Deka held an interactive session with the girl students of NTPC, Salakati area at the conference hall of Kokrajhar Deputy Commissioner's office on Saturday.

This initiative, as part of NTPC Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), plans to promote girl child development under Girl Empowerment Mission (GEM). Under this, a total of 39 girl students between the ages of 10-12 from neighbouring villages of the NTPC project area participated in the interactive programme.

During the exchange of views, Kokrajhar Deputy Commissioner Varnali Deka asked all the students about their aims in life and advised everyone to have a goal to become a productive member of society. In response to queries from the students, she shared about her childhood aim in life and about how she could fulfil her aim in life to become an engineer and an IAS officer. She motivated the children to work hard to achieve their goals.

Deputy Commissioner Varnali Deka explained to all the students regarding Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav and also about 'Har Ghar Tiranga' as part of the vision of Prime Minister of India. The Deputy Commissioner asked all the students to participate in the 'Har Ghar Tiranga' programme to be held from August 13 to August 15. All the girls pledged to ensure that the Tiranga would be displayed in their homes and also to ensure the same in their communities and villages.

The students also saw a meeting with the heads of various departments chaired by Kokrajhar Deputy Commissioner Varnali Deka to discuss the implementation of the 'Har Ghar Tiranga' programme in the district. In the meeting, Deputy Commissioner Varnali Deka took stock of the preparedness status of 'Har Ghar Tiranga' from all concerned officers. The Deputy Superintendent of police Punam Pegu also interacted with the students on career guidance while attending the programme. Officials from the district administration, NTPC and heads of departments took part in the programme.
