Kokrajhar DC Varnali Deka receives PM's Award for innovative work

Bringing laurels to Assam, Deputy Commissioner of Kokrajhar, Varnali Deka has been conferred with the Prime Minister’s Award, 2020 for innovative work done

KOKRAJHAR: Bringing laurels to Assam, Deputy Commissioner of Kokrajhar, Varnali Deka has been conferred with the Prime Minister's Award, 2020 for innovative work done during her tenure as the Deputy Commissioner of Goalpara in the Aspirational District Category.

The Award announced at the Central Civil Service Day Programme at Vigyan Bhavan, Delhi recognizes the wide-based efforts made for Aspirational District Goalpara to achieve saturation in many key performance indicators in Health and Nutrition, Education, Basic Infrastructure, Financial Inclusion and Skill Development and in Agriculture and Water Resources. She received a letter of commendation for her outstanding work while Prime Minister Narendra Modi also took the time for a group photograph with the recipients of Prime Minister's Award.

The Goalpara district administration used a two-pronged approach in terms of systematic improvements, convergences of all departments and stakeholders and innovations such as Poshan Clubs, BaLAnisation, Hanging Libraries, Mission Vidyashakti, Model Anganwadi centres, Accelerated and Community Learning Programmes, Goalmart, Green technologies in road construction; Clean Goalpara-Green Goalpara; Smart Classrooms; " Pehi", CSR Gap funding for saturation in toilets, electricity etc; Plastic Free Goalpara, Fertigation/Seedling Tray/SRI; infrastructure snapshot, #Goalpara Cares and many more. Most of the interventions have been low cost and high impact, scalable, replicable and holistic providing hand holding to all stakeholders. Through convergences, collaboration and Jan Bhagidari, Goalpara could achieve high performances in all these areas in the years from 2018 to 2020 including first rank in Financial Inclusion and Skilling.

Varnali Deka also participated as a key panelist in the panel discussion on Aspirational District Programme - saturation programme held in this prestigious event.

Contributions from Assam also feature prominently in the Coffee table book Shining Horizons released by the Prime Minister in the Civil Services Day Programme on April 21 which showcases the best initiatives taken across the country in 2021-2022. Khelo Kokrajhar initiative has been showcased and appreciated for promoting 'Hope, Wellness and Happiness'. Efforts from Goalpara district also features in the two 2019 Coffee Table Book - Harnessing Possibilities, Enriching Lives including A Ray of Life (Goalpara SAUBHAGYA), Brightening Life (Goalpara) and in Breakout Innovations - Goalpara Green Technology.

The 2020 Coffee Table Book From Darkness to Light features the Goalpara Aspirational Story in the chapter titled 'Many Challenges: One Goal'.
