KOKRAJHAR: The drought-like situation due to lack of rain has made the farmers helpless in Kokrajhar as most of the paddy fields are dry. There has not been sufficient rainfall for more than two weeks. The farmers depend mainly on rain waters in the Kokrajhar district. The heat wave has made matters worse.

Talking to this reporter, a farmer of South Aflagaon, G. Narzary said that this year rains had deceived the farmers in the time of need. He said that recently devastating floods had ravaged the region. Now it was the peak time to transplant the paddy but there was no rain. He added that most of the paddy fields would be left dry if sufficient rainfall does not take place in the coming days.
