Kokrajhar Police Detain Truck Carrying 38 Cattle Heads at Srirampur

The raid was conducted by the police on the basis of a tip-off. This is the second instance of illegal transportation of cattle in Kokrajhar in 4 days.

Kokrajhar: Kokrajhar Police seized a container truck which was illegally transporting cattle at Srirampur check gate on Sunday. The raid was conducted by the police on the basis of a tip-off and the truck bearing registration number WB91-3014 was detained by them.

Kokrajhar Police discovered 38 cattle heads in the truck. The police have taken five persons in custody in connection with the seizure.

The detained persons have been are said to residents of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and West Bengal. They have been identified as Aleem Khan, son of Anwar Khan, a resident of Aurangabad village in Uttar Pradesh and Sadek Ali, son of Khuda Baksh, a resident of Uttar Deshnapur in West Bengal, Kaleem Uddin, son of Tashleem Uddin, a resident of Kishanganj in Bihar; Haril Yadav, son of Sankar Yadav, a resident of Katihar in Bihar and Turab Ali, son of Mokbul Hussain, a resident of Dewna, Golpukor in West Bengal.

The police informed that legal proceedings against the apprehended men have been initiated.

On January 29th, Kokrajhar Police had also detained a truck with 13 cattle heads hidden under a cover at Rampur.

The police detained the truck, bearing registration No. UP12T-3795 at Simultapu police checkpoint.

The police seized the cattle on the spot and arrested two persons in this connection as they failed to produce proper documents.

The arrested persons have been identified as 50-year-old Md. Dishad, son of Yamin, a resident of Pardi village under Sahpur police station in Uttar Pradesh's Muzafarnagar and 40-year-old Md. Sadakat Ali, son of late Ali Mohammad, a resident of Harara village under Saralpur PS in UP's Meerut.

Kokrajhar Superintendent of Police Rakesh Raushan informed that an investigation was launched into the illegal transport.

On January 14th, Simultapu police seized 4 cow laden trucks on NH 31 at Srirampur in Gossaigaon. Police recovered the cows while it was being carried to Guwahati from West Bengal's Sonapur in the trucks bearing registration number- UP21-BN9171, UP21- CN3756, AS01-6771 and AS01-MC1473 respectively.

More than hundreds of cows were being carried in the trucks. Police have arrested eight drivers and handymen in connection to it.
