KOKRAJHAR: The vegetable vendors of Kokrajhar main market have been shifted to three-storeyed building in the market complex on Friday in the presence of Minister of Social Welfare and Soil Conservation, Pramila Rani Brahma, DC, Bhaskar Phukan, SP, Rakesh Roushan, Circle Officer Deepan Barman and Chairman of Kokrajhar Municipal Board (KMB) Bishnu Narzary.

The vegetable vendors in Kokrajhar main market had no permanent place or stalls over the years. They used to sell vegetables on the roads in the market. Later, the KMB in association with district administration built a three storied permanent market complex building after the 2008 serial bomb blasts in the State. Though the new building was inaugurated some years back, it was not used for some technical problems. There was no provision of elavator or smooth stair case to pull thelas or trolleys of vegetables to upper stories that prompted the authority to connect the old building with the new market building which has all options for the vendors to reach upper story.

Talking to mediapersons, the Minister of Social Welfare Brahma said it was a happy moment for the vendors to get a new building complex to sell vegetables who earlier had to sell on the road struggling with rain and hot days. She said the shifting of vendors in permanent structure will ensure clean and green Kokrajhar project. She thanked the district administration and KMB for taking necessary measures to shift the vendors.

Brahma said the developmental activities in the region was stuck due to coronavirus pandemic and the Code of Conduct of BTC election which is hanging due to lockdown. She also said there was no elected government in the region to carry out development with responsibility.

On the preparation of electioneering, Brahma said the BPF could not go to public due to lockdown. Since the BJP has kick-started reach out programmes in remote areas, the BPF will have to move to masses for campaigning by maintaining the protocols of lockdown, she said adding that the BPF should work carefully.

On the resignation issue of some senior BPF leaders, Brahma said only two or three leaders have left the party for some personal interest. She also said this will not hamper the party in anyway. On the BJP's stand to field its own candidates in ensuing BTC election, she said its up to BJP but the BPF will stand and fight it alone. She, however, said the alliance between the BJP and the BPF was fine in state level.
