KOKRAJHAR: The Kolobari-Kumguri Villagers’ Protection Committee has asked Sona Vets Private Limited of Serfanguri to remove its machinery and other belongings within 15 days following cancellation of the company’s trade licence after objections from local residents.

In a written statement submitted to the Officer-in-Charge of Serfanguri Police Station, committee president Deepak Basumatary and secretary Dhantori Narzary said the trade licence issued to Sona Vets Private Limited, Serfanguri, owned by Someer Agarwal of West Bengal, had been cancelled by the Trade Licence Issuing Authority, Dotma Development Block, vide Memo No. D.D.B/Trade Licence/2006-27/255 dated August 5, 2026.

The committee said the cancellation order was formally communicated to Agarwal, owner of Sona Vets Private Limited, ALLDC, Serfanguri, through Order No. DDB-01/Esstt/2025-26/136 dated August 20, 2026.

According to the committee, the company had set up a broiler farm in a populated area near Janata College, Serfanguri, which allegedly caused pollution affecting local residents and educational institutions. A series of protests followed, after which the district administration took action, the committee said.

It may be mentioned that a meeting was held at the Dotma Circle Office following instructions from the District Commissioner, Kokrajhar. Representatives of local complainants, members of the public, students of Janata College, Serfanguri, and officials from the Pollution Control Department, Veterinary Department, Circle Office and Dotma Development Block, among others, attended the meeting.

Following deliberations and consideration of the issues raised at the meeting, the trade licence of the establishment was cancelled.

In view of the cancellation, the village committee requested the Officer-in-Charge of Serfanguri Police Station to allow Sona Vets Private Limited 15 days to remove its remaining movable belongings, machinery, equipment, materials and other establishment-related articles from the premises in a peaceful and orderly manner.

The committee further requested that the establishment not be permitted to undertake any fresh commercial or business activity during the 15-day period, as its trade licence has already been cancelled. The committee said the requested period should be treated only as a reasonable opportunity for the removal of belongings and dismantling or removal of the establishment, subject to directions from the competent authorities.

It expressed the view that allowing the company a short and reasonable period would ensure a peaceful, lawful and orderly transition while avoiding any possibility of misunderstanding, confrontation or disturbance in the locality.
