Krishi Vigyan Kendra conducts grand harvest programme in Lakhimpur

LAKHIMPUR: A grand harvest programme on Sali paddy was conducted at Naharani under Bongalmora area by Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Lakhimpur under the aegis of Assam Agribusiness and Rural Transformation Project (APART) under the guidance of Dr Prasanta Kumar Pathak Senior Scientist & Head, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Lakhimpur, on Friday.

A total of 150 participants comprising farmers, rural youths and scientists attended the programme. The programme started with a welcome address by Dr Prasanta Kumar Pathak. Sumit Sattawan, the Deputy Commissioner of Lakhimpur, was present in the programme as chief guest. In his lecture, the Deputy Commissioner informed the farmers about the MSP of Sali paddy for the current season and laid stress on the positive impact of mechanization in today's situation where people are facing lots of labour problem now.

Chief Scientist of Regional Agricultural Research Station, Dr Prabal Saikia, Commandant of No. 13 APBN Lakhimpur, Md. Fakhrul Islam, representative of MP Lakhimpur, Nepal Podder, and Specialist, International Rice Research Institute, Vivek Kumar were present as guest of honour in the programme. Jugawati Pawe, the president of Naharani Panchayat, Dharitree Phukan, representative from Bihpuria circle, were also present in the event.

During the programme, the mini combine harvester was demonstrated among the farmers to showcase its advantages. Deputy Commissioner Sumit Sattawan operated the mini combine harvester to motivate the farmers towards mechanization. Effort was also made to create awareness among the farmers regarding use of modern technologies and machinery in farming. All the scientists of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Lakhimpur attended the programme.
