TANGLA: In sync with the resolution of Assam Cabinet to grant land pattas to 4,444 indigenous landless families across 16 districts of State, the villagers of Kukurakata village under Harisinga Revenue Circle near Tangla town of Udalguri district made fervent appeal to Chief Minister Dr.Himanta Biswa Sarma to consider for granting land pattas to more than 1000 landless indigenous families of the village.

The villagers lamenting the long pending issue of land pattas in the Bodo belt decried that CM Sarma and BTR CEM Pramod Boro had on multiple occasions assured and promised of issuing land pattas which was never materialized. “During the last BTC elections, Assam CM Sarma had promised of resolving the issue and providing land pattas and digitization of land records across the five districts of Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) but three years have elapsed and we are losing hopes in the assurances of the government both in State and the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC ) led by Pramod Boro.” said a villager, Tej Bahadur Karji. Another villager, Deben Basumatari lamenting the lackadaisical attitude of government said, “Our forefathers have been residing in this village for time immemorial but why have we been deprived of land pattas despite being indigenous sons of the soil.” The villagers have also made fervent appeal to Assam government to appoint a permanent circle officer in Harisinga Revenue Circle which have been functioning without a permanent circle officer for more than four months. “We are facing inordinate delays in availing government services like issuance of income certificates, EWS certificates as the Harisinga Revenue Circle Office have been functioning without a permanent circle officer,” said Khersi Boro of the village.

On a query by this correspondent, BTR Executive Member Daobaisa Boro said, “We have already provided land pattas to nearly 22,000 landless families across BTR by hosting Bhumi Mela in the year 2022. He further reiterated that BTC authorities have streamlined a process in line with Mission Basundara of State and through Mission Bwiswmuthi the land records of all the five districts of BTR will be digitalized and land patta related issues will be resolved.
