TEZPUR: KVK, Sonitpur organized four programmes under APART namely 'Training on Post Harvest Technology' and 'Demonstration on Post Harvest Technology' in collaboration with International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) at KVK, Tezpur, Napam campus.

The Head of KVK, Sonitpur Dr. Promod Chandra Deka, welcomed the farmers and dignitaries on both the occasions. He also emphasized the importance of proper post harvest practices and agricultural machineries in the context of present agricultural scenario. The District Agricultural Officer of Sonitpur, Prakash Chandra Bora, who was present as Chief Guest elaborated about the different schemes of the government by which the farmers can avail the subsidies in purchasing different agricultural tools and machineries. The programs were also attended by Dr. Pallab Kr. Sarma, Chief Scientist, AICRP on Dryland Agriclture, BNCA and Dr. Bikram Borkotoki, Senior Scientist (Soil Science), AIRCPA on Dryland Agriculture, BNCA who shared their valuable inputs with the farmers.

Saurajjyoti Baishya, Post Harvest Specialist, IRRI, acted as a resource person and presented the technical knowhow of different agricultural machineries and tools. Baishya also demonstrated some of the machineries and tools available at KVK, Sonitpur under the APART project. He also explained about the modern grain storage practices and facilities. The farmers showed keen interest on the machineries showcased in the programme. Around 80 farmers from different parts of the district and all officials of KVK, Sonitpur attended the programmes on both the days.
